Borys Buryak – a famous Ukrainian artist, teacher, coach.
He was born on October 25, 1953 in the village of Podvirne, Chernivtsi region. He graduated from Lviv State School of Applied Arts. Ivan Trush (1974). He graduated from the Lviv State Institute of Applied Arts (1979). Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1987).
Founder of KUM (Club of Ukrainian Artists). Winner of the NAU Award (1991). Fellow of the international competition “New Names” Moscow (1992). Winner of the prize of the republican exhibition “Art Club” Khmelnytsky (1996). Honored Artist of Ukraine (2004). Senator of the Academic Senate of the International Academy of Contemporary Art. Rome (2009). People’s Artist of Ukraine (2016).
The artist works in lively, vivid emotional and dynamic impulses, thinking of color as a complex substance, according to the inner need – his own and the canvas, which is constantly changing to later become independent and start his own life in endless associative contacts with the viewer.
As a teacher, he really contributed to the important task of forming new generations, passing on to them the experience commensurate with modern and postmodern thinking of the XX – early XXI century. He brought up a brilliant constellation of young artists of Ukraine.
He lives and works in Lviv. Since 1976 he has participated in national and international exhibitions in Lviv, Rzeszow (Poland), New York, Lyon, Metz, Angers (France), Kyiv, Moscow, Vienna, Brussels, Falkenburg (Netherlands), Aachen, Siegen, Dortmund, Munich, Furti, Wachtberg-Berkum (Germany) and Prague.
Borys Buryak’s works are stored in numerous museums in Ukraine, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, the USA, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, etc. In August 2009, a retrospective of his works took place at the National Museum of Lviv.
